The Firestation Arts Centre
Take over 200 musicians from more than 25 different countries, imagine that they never met or recorded together but converge on a project of unique fusions which crosses cultures and styles. This is the world of Orchestra of Samples.
Celebrating the release of their debut album Orchestra of Samples, electronic duo Addictive TV (Graham Daniels and Mark Vidler) bring their latest audiovisual extravaganza to The Firestation. Five years in the making and blending elements of world and folk with electronics, the pair filmed and recorded improvised sessions with musicians around the world, then sampled and seamlessly spliced them together to create a supergroup of artists who never met but are brought together on-screen. A fusion of sound and vision uniting international talents through ingenious sampling, the project involves some of the top musicians in their chosen field and documents a range of unusual localised instruments in recordings from Brazil to Kazakhstan, Egypt to Senegal, across Europe and even Bhutan in the Himalayas.
As Addictive TV, Daniels and Vidler have been at the forefront of audio and video mash-ups and AV shows for nearly two decades, and have now performed in over a staggering 50 countries! Addictive TV have won international acclaim for Orchestra of Samples described as “ingenious and compelling” by The Times and “a glimpse into the very essence of music” by Cultured Vultures. They’ll perform live alongside Paris-based fretless guitar specialist Alejandro de Valera, so join them on this magical, unique musical journey without borders!
